Over a decade of REDCap Expertise
Research IT hosts and administers the ITHS REDCap instance, part of the University of Washington’s NIH-funded Clinical and Translational Science Award (CTSA) supporting research across the WWAMI region (Washington, Wyoming, Alaska, Montana, and Idaho). With more than a decade of experience, our REDCap environment has supported thousands of investigators and continues to grow — reaching over 17,000 active users as of 2022

Our REDCap Instance
redcap.iths.org
ITHS provides free REDCap access to member investigators, partners, and collaborators for research, quality improvement, and operational support. While core access and basic support are free, some services requiring customization or advanced expertise fall under our consultation model (fee-based). Please review our Governance and Policies for more details.

Our REDCap services support every stage of the research lifecycle, including:
Basic troubleshooting
Complex project consultation
Design review and optimization
Specialized use-case guidance
REDCap Support
If you encounter an issue or need help designing a complex project, our experienced team is here to help.
REDCap Consultation
For projects requiring specialized functionality beyond standard support, we offer consultation services at an hourly rate.
REDCap Training
REDCap is designed for users of all experience levels. While the platform is user-friendly for basic projects, mastering its advanced features can be challenging. We provide training to help researchers fully leverage REDCap’s capabilities.
Training available on ITHS.org
The earlier you are in your study design process, the more help we can provide.
Training
REDCap was designed to be utilized by a wide variety of skill levels and backgrounds. The user interface makes starting and building projects relatively simple. As REDCap has grown and expanded it has accrued many new features and functionality making mastering these advanced features more difficult. We implore REDCap users to utilize the following resources, in the suggested order of use, to resolve their issues prior to drawing on our support offerings:
REDCap video tutorials, explanatory text on the REDCap pages, and the Frequently Asked Questions page
REDCap Tip of the Month or other online supplemental documentation provided by ITHS
User education including introductory and advanced classes offered by ITHS
Weekly zoom office hours
Register for Trainings
REDCap is provided to Institute of Translational Health Sciences (ITHS) Members. Membership is free, to register for classes visit iths.org or select the class below to become a member and register for training.
Our REDCap Experts can help with complex projects and extended features of REDCap
Support
If a user does not obtain a solution to a REDCap problem using the training resources, then the user may send an email directly to the administrative ticketing system by emailing redcaphelp@uw.edu. To expedite the process when contacting REDCap administrators, it is suggested that you include some of the following pieces of information with your support request to avoid excess back and forth:
Project ID (PID) – the project ID is how we identify which project on our REDCap instance that you require help with. This is usually a 3-6 digit number located in your “my projects” page in a column to the right of your project name or in your project next to your project name.
Record number(s) that are experiencing the issue (if applicable)
Variable name(s) of fields that have issue(s) (if applicable)
Detailed description of the issue and attempts to resolve the situation
If you have multiple smaller questions, it may be more suitable for our weekly zoom office hours to resolve.
Timely REDCap Support
The REDCap support desk hours of operation is Monday through Friday 8am – 4pm. REDCap administrators will respond as soon as possible in the order the tickets are received. Responses may take up to one business day after initial contact. Please plan accordingly when submitting requests in regard to project deadlines.

Consultations
All projects begin with an intake request through our portal. Completing this form will allow us to review your request, basic project needs, and provide you with an estimate of the hours needed to complete the project.
When we receive your completed intake request, we will do our best to get back to you as quickly as possible to discuss your needs, estimate, and timelines. If you have any questions in the meantime, please contact us at redcaphelp@uw.edu.
Rates
The UW has Internal and External billing rates based on the Institution supported and their organizations status and funding source of the project.
Internal UW Rate
With UW Worktags
$150
External Rate
No UW Budget Number
$200
Industry Rate
Internal With Industry
$270
We invoice in the first week of the month for work done in the previous month. This amount will be automatically deducted from the supplied worktag. The billing contact you supply before beginning a consultation will get an invoice (from UW Central Billing) at that time, but generally doesn't have to do a thing.
Examples of our Work
We help researchers every day do great work, here are some examples of what we have accomplished and what we can do together.
Kidney Precision Medicine Project (KPMP)
The Kidney Precision Medicine Project (KPMP) is an ambitious, multi-year project funded by the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK) with the purpose of understanding and finding new ways to treat chronic kidney disease (CKD) and acute kidney injury (AKI).
RIT REDCap supports clinical care and participant safety at KPMP recruitment sites. The recruitment sites recruit adult men and women with either AKI or CKD for longitudinal cohort studies that include a research kidney biopsy. The Recruitment Sites use REDCap to capture demographic information, conduct longitudinal clinical phenotyping, and collect biological samples in a standardized manner.
RIT REDCap supports participant safety with complex validation that automates enrollment eligibility determination for recruitment sites, which have allowed the recruitment sites to screen over 12000 potential participants since 2019. Participant adverse events are also entered and tracked in REDCap, with the Data and Safety Monitoring Board (DSMB) and the NIDDK being notified when appropriate.
REDCap is also used to validate data quality with hundreds of programmed quality checks that allow the study data to be validated in real time at the recruitment sites and deeply cleaned every few months by the Collaborative Health Studies Coordinating Center (CHSCC).
In coordination with the CHSCC and the University of Michigan Central Biorepository, REDCap is also used as part of a coordinated system to track biosample kits being sent to recruitment sites and their use.
NACC
The National Alzheimer’s Coordinating Center was established in 1999 by the National Institute on Aging/NIH to facilitate collaborative research. Using data collected from NIA-funded Alzheimer’s Disease Research Centers (ADRCs) across the United States, NACC has developed and maintains a large relational database of standardized clinical and neuropathological research data. In partnership with the Alzheimer’s Disease Genetics Consortium (ADGC), the National Centralized Repository for Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Disorders (NCRAD), and the NIA Genetics of Alzheimer’s Disease Data Storage Site (NIAGADS), NACC provides a valuable resource for both exploratory and explanatory Alzheimer’s disease research.
RIT REDCap supports both NACC staff and ADRC researchers. Many of NACC’s operational workflows have been streamlined by using REDCap, including the data request process. ADRC researchers have successfully leveraged REDCap to gain insight into important research questions and the collaborative ability of each center. REDCap allows NACC and the ADRCs to create uniform data collection projects that can be disseminated across all ADRCs. Centers then have the ability to collect data and then submit it back to NACC via REDCap. De-identified aggregate data pulled from the REDCap project can then be shared with researchers worldwide.
